Hi there! I am clearly a little late in posting my weekend update on this lovely Monday. Blame it on a crazy busy Sunday and a busy day at work today. But it was a great weekend filled with a ton of good food and drinks, balanced out by a couple of super active days — I got in 15k steps on Friday and 25k on Sunday! So it had to be documented :)

It started off on Friday evening with an impromptu happy hour with Shannon -

We started with margaritas at Mayahuel…they are prooobably my favorite margs in town! Then, we made our way over to Firestone to meet up with Shanny’s friend Jas. Salads, drinks, and hilariously inappropriate girl talk (the best kind, obviously) ensued.

Because I apparently can’t go a weekend without brunch…we rode our bikes 2-3 miles to West Sacramento to enjoy brunch at Broderick for Matt’s belated birthday celebration. I had carnitas, amazing salsa, and an egg over French fries (my favorite food group), and promptly laid down on my couch for approxxxximately 3 hours afterward. Epic food coma.

During that time, I watched Zach Braff’s new movie Wish I Was Here on my computer. Some of you may remember that Zach Braff launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the movie. Well, I totally drank the Kool-Aid and kicked in something like $20. In return, I got behind the scenes email updates from the set, previews of the soundtrack, and got to watch a free screening at home.

That all being said, the movie was REALLY good. I may have even liked it more than Garden State! It comes out on Friday and I highly recommend it!

After I finally got my butt off the couch, I met up with Matt and Nicki at Second Saturday where they were hanging out at the Xoso (dodgeball league) booth. We stopped by Butcher Block, a new-ish bar that serves whiskey flights and meat/cheese “slabs”…I NEED to go back and try some of their food, it looked amazing!

We also wore sunglasses inside and looked really cool, we found my back-of-the-head doppelganger, Nicki had a heart to heart with Kenny the infamous dancing machine, and Matt found an adorbs crop top. He totes should have bought it, right?

Even though I knew I would regret it with the day I had ahead of me, I ran 8.5 miles on Sunday morning. I just can’t bring myself to skip those long runs! They keep me sane.

Next up was the World Cup final. I went with a few softball friends and met up with Austin and Shannon – who were nice enough to tolerate a selfie with me ;)

Immediately afterward, I jammed over to Roosevelt Park for my first softball game! I am now playing Ultimate Frisbee on Wednesdays, and both softball AND dodgeball on Sundays. We lost, but I scored a run and I didn’t strike out…so I’d say it was a success!

Next up was standard debauchery at the dodgeball bar before and after I played 2 dodgeball games. Now do you see how I got to 25,000 steps on Sunday?? Haha. Unfortunately one of those games was the championship match and we lost. Someone finally knocked us off our 3-time defending champion pedestal!

All was well in the end, because we went back to the bar to play Gaucho Ball, beer pong, listen to Turn Down For What on repeat, and do the Bernie. Solid. Sunday. Night.

What is your favorite thing to order at brunch? I always go savory!

Do you know how to do the Bernie?

My boss and her hubby are on the dodgeball team that won! If it’s any consolation, they needed it before the team from his office takes a hiatus. I need to check out Xoso one of these days…

  2. Savory brunches are definitely the best!!! And those french fries… I die. I am always so in awe of how jam-packed your weekends are – I would be so exhausted but you just push through! #awesomesauce

I am ALWAYS exhausted by the end. #worthit

Also, these weekends are probably why I only have energy every weeknight to come home, have cheese and crackers for dinner, gulp down a glass of wine, and pass the F out. ;)
