Giving Thanks

This year, more than most years, I feel like I have a lot to be thankful for.

I remember looking back on 2013, feeling pretty lost, and thinking, “I began this year in a relationship and employed, and I am ending it single and without a job.” Of course, this was a little pessimistic of me, being that I had been hired just before Christmas and scheduled to start my new job mid-January.

I’ve mentioned my feelings about this before, but having hard times really makes you appreciate when things start to go your way. That, plus recent family illness, make it pretty easy for me to identify what I am thankful for this year.

1. First and foremost: my health.

I should be thanking the heavens every day to have good health and an able body. It is something that can be taken from you at any time, and should never be taken for granted. The fact that I ran two half marathons this year is a big deal! I also did not break a bone this year for the first time since 2012 (knock on wood) — the worst injury I had was a bad sprain in June.

2. My job

I go to work every day knowing that I get to do work I enjoy, with people I like, on issues I care about. I don’t dread waking up every morning anymore. I’m proud to tell people what I do, and I feel like I am settling into a career that I can see myself enjoying long-term.

3. My boyfriend

This year I am so fortunate to have found a partner in crime, support system, constant source of laughter, lover and best friend all rolled into one. It doesn’t hurt that Russell also loves to run and work out and we can talk about macros together. (Hahaha…Sh*t Healthy Living Bloggers Say… am I right?) #Krussell for the win!

4. My family and friends (and blends!)

It may be because they’re stuck with me, but my family has always been a wonderful source of unconditional love and support. Both of my extended families have gone through a lot this year: births, deaths, illness…just to name a few. All combined make me really cherish the times that we get to spend together, however far and few between they may be.

And between contributing to the fun times and helping through the hard times, my friends are the best. Also, I was again reminded this year after attending Blend Retreat how valuable my blogger friendships blendships are — it’s incredible to meet someone in person for the first time and just know that you have so much in common!

Lindsay, Becky, Julie, Kim, Aly, Tori, and [not pictured] Alisha, Carly, Ashley — you all are awesome!

Basically, I am just feeling very fortunate this year and I can’t wait to celebrate with family tomorrow. Hope you all have a happy and safe Thanksgiving weekend!

What are you thankful for this year?
