My 28th Birthday

This morning, I scanned through my Facebook “On This Day” memories (I deleted Timehop from my phone months ago because of a lack of space and obnoxious number of notifications) and came across last year’s birthday post.

In it, I gushed about how awesome my life was and I linked to birthday posts from the years before: when I turned 26 and had a great weekend with my boyfriend and did a month by month recap from my amazing 26th year…or when I turned 25 and got real introspective about my self-diagnosed quarter life crisis. It’s clear to me that every year I’ve used this blog to reflect on my birthday and remember what it is I’ve accomplished and what I’ve learned after another year. Continue reading

Life Lately

Well, hello there! Long time no blog. (4 months to the day, to be exact!)

That is a shocking amount of time to have gone sans blogging, especially considering that I’d been going pretty strong – at least a couple times per month – for the last 5 years.

(OK, real talk, it was 4 months to the day when I originally wrote this post, but it has legit sat in my Drafts pile for a whopping 12 days. Now you guys see what I’m talking about!)

Not too long after my last post, I got a promotion at work. In the months since, it feels like there have been quite a few weeks, and probably even month-long stretches really, where work and my “extra-curricular” life are so hectic that all I want to do when I get home (which is often not til 8pm) is have a glass of wine and veg out on the couch. And you better bet that, given the option, wine always wins 😉 Continue reading

Life Lately

Once upon a time, I had a blog that I wrote in regularly. Then I started to slow down…and then I went 2 months without blogging. Whoops!

It’s not that I haven’t thought about it. And I wish I could say that I’ve been too busy changing my life or traveling the world or something of the sort, but the real answer is a little more like: busy with the holidays, and I started binge-watching American Horror Story (starting with Coven and moving on to Freak Show 😛 ) in the evenings instead of blogging. *insert embarrassed emoji here*

That being said, I’m still the same girl that I was in high school (don’t ask me how long ago that was) (OK, it was over 10 years ago)…and that would be the girl who documents and takes pictures of everything. So although I haven’t updated this little bloggity blog since a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving, you bet yer butt I’ve got pictures to get y’all caught up 😉

I have no intention of giving up on my blog…on the contrary, I have plans to run a half marathon in March, and I even got a planner this year (check out Passion Planner!) to step up my To-Do list game, which should give me plenty of blog fodder. But until then…here are some pictures of my Life Lately. Continue reading

Birthday Week in Photos

I can’t remember the last time I started a blog post with a sentence other than something like, “so this post is a little delayed, but…” Apparently I’ve been busy!

Last Thursday (September 24th) was my birthday! Pretty much every year since I’ve had this blog, I’ve done some sort of birthday post, so I didn’t want to abandon the tradition! For fun you can check out my 25th birthday quarter life crisis (I was nearing the end of a really rough year) and my 26th birthday photo post (a rough year is best followed by a re-building year!).

Age 26 was kind of a weird one for me. It is so strange to me that for an entire year I have had a job that I like, kept up regular exercise (ran 2 half marathons) and a healthy diet with no significant physical ailments (besides my scary bike crash and hospital stay), and am in a healthy loving relationship (with someone whose terrible jokes make me laugh just as much today as they did a year ago).

I guess I just got used to things being wrong.

I definitely still find little things to complain about from time to time, as I’m sure we all do, but overall I am a lucky girl! Case in point: my birthday celebrations lasted a whole week! Read on for more :) Continue reading

Weekend in Photos

Hello and happy Monday!

This weekend I decided to make a conscious effort to take more pictures (or at least more than usual) so that I could document the weekend. The interesting thing was, this was the first weekend in 4 weeks that we actually stayed in town the entire weekend with nothing planned. Since we went to New York the second week in July, I think there have only been 2, maybe 3 weeks that we haven’t been traveling or out and about. That’s summer for ya, right?

Without any real set plans, I still ended up having a pretty fun weekend, with some relaxation sprinkled in 😉 Continue reading

That Time I Climbed Half Dome

If you follow me on Instagram, you may already know that I went on a quick* walk in the park** on Sunday…

*18 miles

**Yosemite National Park

Thanks to my insane boyfriend, earlier this spring we won the lottery. Except instead of getting a million dollars, we got to torture ourselves for 12 hours by hiking to the top of Half Dome.

I complain, but it really was a once in a lifetime experience (or 4 times in a lifetime if you are said insane boyfriend), I’m glad we did it, and I feel pretty damn accomplished. Plus, I think this view was worth it:

A few fun facts about the hike:

  • 8.2 mi (13 km) (via the Mist Trail) to the top, so 16.4 miles round trip. We took a different [longer, but more gradual and less stress on the knees] trail on the way down, and walked about .5 miles each way from the parking lot
  • 4,800 ft (1,460 m) elevation gain
  • The final 400 ft (120 m) ascent is steeply up the rock between two steel cables used as handholds (A class 3 route)
  • A maximum of 300 permits per day in the months of May-October are issued to hikers and backpackers who enter the lottery to apply for permits

Weekend in Photos

Question of the week: Where has the summer gone?

I was reading social media posts this morning saying that some students are going back to school today…What the what?!

We just got over a pretty insane week of 100+ temps (I think we had 3 or 4 days in a row, peaking at 107…yikes) in Northern California, so it still definitely feels like summer here. And this weekend’s activities definitely solidified that feeling!

On Saturday morning, I peeled myself out of bed just in time to make it to a yoga class at my gym. Russell and I have been trying to get “in shape” for an upcoming Lake Tahoe trip. My goal lately has been 2 gym trips and 2 runs during the week…then hope for the best on the weekends ;P I’ve been pretty good about the first part for several weeks now, but for me to actually bust out a decently challenging workout on a Saturday this weekend was a big win for me. Gone are the days of my 10 mile Saturday morning runs, apparently! Continue reading

Treat Yourself Tuesday – New York Edition

Oh hi again! It’s me…almost another entire month since my last post. #bloggerfail

Life has been busy with work and play, and I somehow fit in a mini vacation among all the craziness! Last week, we went to New York to celebrate my Pop (grandpa)’s 90th birthday. We also got to spend a couple of days in NYC. I decided to remember a few of the best treats of the trip in a TYT post, along with a few other things I’ve treated myself to since we got back.

Be sure to check out Becky’s post to see what fabulous things people have been doing to treat themselves. She puts it best:

“Do whatever feels best for you. Do something that will make you feel relaxed and loved and happy. Treat yourself well and treat yourself often so that you will become the best you possible and in turn be your best for others in your life!”

Friday Favorites

Helllloooo blog. That was a bit of a hiatus, eh? It’s been nearly a month since my last update. My bad.

I’ve been pretty busy at work and with life in general lately. And I think I’ve mentioned this before, but when your job involves drafting tweets and posting on Facebook and writing blogs…sometimes doing those things for yourself just feels like another job.

That’s not to say I don’t still occasionally spend lunch time and my before-bed phone time catching up on others’ blogs though! I’m starting to wonder how people do it with busy full-time jobs and regular blog posts on top of it!

One thing that won’t change no matter how busy I am (or how much I neglect my blog) is the fact that I’m constantly taking pictures and documenting my everyday life. Like, seriously. The other day, Russell actually said to me, “you don’t have to take pictures of everything you eat, you know.” I know…but I #cantstop #wontstop!

So without further ado, here are some of my recent favorite things that I’ve been able to document: Continue reading

Life Lately

Sometimes, you get really busy in life and priorities change.

In my case, as soon as I get busy at work, the first things to go are 1) cleaning my apartment and 2) this blog.

Case in point: my bed is home to more unfolded (mostly clean) clothes than bedsheets (which of course get moved to the floor before I crawl into bed, then back onto their spot on the bed when I get up 😉 ), and I haven’t updated this little bliggedy blog in 3 weeks.

I still try to read lots of blogs, and comment when I can, but honestly it’s not too easy to take time out of your day to write about your life when really your only life outside of work consists of sweatpants, wine, and whatever else will help you decompress from the day. Plus, the field I work in (Public Affairs/PR) involves a lot of Facebook/newsletter/blog writing as it is, and sometimes even if it’s a post about workout outfits that I love (ahem, I’m lookin at you, Fabletics), it can still feel like just another writing assignment.

And since I just posted a link to pimp out my referral code for Fabletics, can I also take a moment to pimp out give a shout out to my main man Russell? I am a biiiiiiiig complainer, and he has heard the brunt of it lately. Why he’s stuck around this long, I don’t know…it must be my incessant use of totally not clever hashtags. #girlfriendforsale

[sidenote: I am SO excited to unplug for a whole NINE days when we go to Costa Rica next month!! Feels like perfect timing for a vacation :) ]

That all being said, I love my blog, I love being a blogger, and I love all of the fabulous people I’ve met through it. I’m not going to stop blogging anytime soon, but I’m still trying to find my work-life balance. Until then, I’ll just be over here lurking on your blogs and oversharing pictures of me and my hottie boyfriend on Instagram 😉

Without further ado, here are some photos of what I’ve been up to for the past month, and an attempt at <5 word captions to describe them. Continue reading
