Weekend in Photos

Hello and happy Monday! Um, how crazy is it that Christmas is just over a week away? Anyone else lightweight freaking out right now? Luckily, I find baking to be stress relieving, because I have a lot of it to do over the next 7 days 😉

Now…on to the weekend recap! On Friday afternoon, my brother Andrew picked me up and we headed to our parents house for yet another holiday party. My mom has done a great job this month, hosting Thanksgiving, my dad’s birthday party, and this time was her faculty holiday party. My mom teaches at my high school, so I had a fun time catching up with some of my old teachers 😉

photo 2On Saturday morning, I finally got back to my old routine! I hadn’t been to the Farmer’s Market in a few weeks – once because of the craziness of Thanksgiving, and the other time because I just plain old forgot 😉 I started the day with the 2nd long run of my half marathon training…I was aiming for 5.75 miles, but my course ended up being a little bit longer. No worries! I figure there’s nothing wrong with being a little bit ahead of schedule 🙂

At the Farmer’s Market, I picked up mustard greens, brussels sprouts, a turnip (which I have NO idea how to cook…roast it?), a butternut squash, and my fave salsa that is already half gone. Oops 🙂 I wasted no time in cooking it all up in a very typical Katie meal: eggs, salsa, and a boatload of green veggies!

On Saturday evening, I was double booked with holiday parties. I started off the evening at my friends CJ and Julie’s party, where I stayed and visited for a bit before heading home and getting ready for party #2: the 1960’s Mad Christmas Party!

Scott did a great job hosting, and everyone looked amazing all dressed to the nines! I was stoked to reuse my Betty Draper costume from Halloween 2010, which worked even better now that I actually have Betty Draper length hair 😉 (in 2010 my hair was halfway down my back!)

The highlight of the weekend by far was dodgeball last night – it was playoff night and my team won! It was my first undefeated season ever, and my first championship in 2 and a half years of playing Xoso sports. It made the victory even sweeter considering that everyone on my team is a longtime (Xoso) friend of mine. It’s crazy how many friendships/romances/memories have been formed through that league!

On the menu this week is present wrapping for charity, Christmas light viewing, more holiday parties, and hopefully lots of cookies 😉 Gotta love this time of year!

Have you been to any themed holiday parties yet this year?

What typically Christmasy things do you look forward to this month?

25th Birthday Weekend in Photos

Hi everyone! Happy fall! Apparently yesterday was the official first day of fall? It was finally feeling like it over here this weekend when it rained all day Saturday….but don’t worry, we’re back into the 80’s again today! Just when I thought I could finally break out my boots…

Tomorrow is my birthday (LAME! Middle of the week birthdays are the worst.) so I decided to celebrate this weekend. I had an amazing time, I’m so grateful all my friends came out! Some from far away too 🙂

The weekend actually started off with a different birthday celebration- Greg’s birthday was on Thursday, so in addition to liquoring him up at the dodgeball bar that night, we did what this group ALWAYS does for birthdays, which is Karaoke at the Distillery. I did two songs (see above) and had a ton of fun! Everyone else stayed and closed down the bar, but Lisa and I headed out early…I knew I’d be waking up early to run and I wanted to rest up for my party!

What was going to be a 4-4.5 mile run turned into 5 miles! I started off at a super super slow pace, so I decided to push myself to go for distance instead of speed. I ended up speeding up anyway, haha. Afterward, my brother took me to Kaiser for a doctor’s appointment and bought me a ton of goodies afterward for my Glow in the Dark themed pub crawl!

After praying that the rain would go away (it did!), people started coming over and the glow in the dark paint fun began. There was some seriously awesome body art going on. We actually skipped the first bar on my list because everyone was so into the glow in the dark paint I had set up at my place. I opted for a simple heart, but don’t you worry, there was also glow in the dark glitter pretty much covering my entire body 😀

So many people came out and got into the theme! My friend Kristin crocheted a bunch of headbands for everyone, everyone was wearing glow bracelets, and most people at least attempted to wear these seizure-inducing shutter shades that Lisa bought me. I had so much fun, and I’m sure we were quite a sight at the bars!

On Sunday morning, I woke up with a mysterious scrape on my face and have determined I sleepwalked. Or….probably more like sleep fell. After cleaning up my apartment a bit, I had a totally relaxing lazy recovery day at Roger’s- watched Star Trek: Into Darkness and snuggled with my 2 new favorite pugs, Pierre & Yoda. 🙂

Insert a forgot-to-take-a-picture of sushi for dinner and that was my weekend!

Have a great week!

Happy Monday!

Hope you all have had a good day so far. A few ups and downs over here…after a full 8 hours of sleep (following 2 nights totaling 8 hours of sleep), I woke up calm and relaxed this morning and even walked to work (it somehow feels so much more relaxing to walk than hurriedly bike). However, I got to work and found out that my gym isn’t reopening for another week. It has been closed for a week and a half, so I’ve just been running outside in the meantime. But I had brought my workout clothes hoping to get back to weight training today and my hopes were shattered! Luckily there is a 24-Hour Fitness by my office, so I just printed out a one-day trial pass and jogged over there instead. Crisis averted!

Anyyyyyway….. the weekend!

Friday evening started with a classy happy hour with 3 of my oldest girlfriends at Riverside Clubhouse (I hadn’t been there since high school- we went before Junior Prom!)…..and ended at not so classy Chita’s for 3am nachos. In between: Late night Insidious Chapter 2 viewing and a couple of drinks at a gay bar.

Saturday morning routine time! Despite a late-night-Mexican stomachache, I still made it out to run. This week, I shook it up a little bit: dressed obnoxiously for my 4.1 mile run, and and walked around the Farmer’s Market with my friend Landai instead of…alone. Afterward, Lisa came over and I used some of my finds to make breakfast/brunch nachos for us.

After a little bit of shopping, it was arts and crafts time. The dodgeball league was hosting a Ninjas vs. Pirates pub crawl…my friend lent me his huge black kickball shirt, so I took in the sides and made some crazy slashes and head/armbands to transform it into a ninja-worthy outfit.

The rest of the night involved our group (half of the bar) singing along to My Heart Will Go On, and lots of general shenanigans. Let’s just say lots of plastic ninja stars were thrown.

In the morning, we recovered with breakfast at a new-to-me spot: Harry’s Cafe. They have both American and Asian-inspired breakfast food (and a full Asian menu)… I got fried rice with a couple of eggs and a BOATLOAD of sriracha, naturally. Roger got their chicken skillet, which didn’t have much chicken to be found, but was still delicious. I’m lucky this place isn’t exactly within walking distance of my apartment, or my arteries would be in trouble!!!

All in all a great weekend, though my sleep schedule suffered greatly!
